In the summer, Treviglio joined the “Città dei Motori” Association (Italian Motor Cities) based on the history and tradition of SAME, now known as SDF. The bond between Treviglio and the company has always been tight. SAME was set up in 1942 in the city, where it still operates today and its factory is on Viale Francesco Cassani – named after its founder. Moreover, SAME stands for “Società Accomandita Motori Endotermici”, immediately showing how “motors” have been vital for the company’s growth right from the start.
Treviglio joined the “Città dei motori” just weeks before “Italian Motor Week”, which is run by the association and will take place from Monday 11 to Sunday 17 September 2023. Member towns will open museums, private collections, historical archives, factories, design studios and research centres to the public.
During Italian Motor Week, the SAME Museum and SDF Historical Archives will be open to the public on Sunday 17 September, from 2 pm to 6 pm. Entry is free and you don’t need to book.
The “Città dei Motori” association, set up in 2008, unites 40 Italian towns from 14 regions under the ANCI umbrella. These towns, home to about 2 million people, have a strong focus on motoring. This includes production of cars, motorbikes, scooters, aerospace and ships, as well as events like races and historical re-enactments, or towns with a cultural interest in motoring, with museums, collections and archives. The Association’s goal is to promote, enhance and safeguard Italy’s motoring heritage across different regions. This is achieved through projects and initiatives that publicise, promote and protect authenticity and quality, helping to increase appreciation beyond the involved areas.
